I’ve jumped off the Internet wagon, just for a moment, well it’s such a lovely day I thought that I’d let you know that my heart still beats, before setting off to hospital again – visiting. Anyway there's a rumour and it's a very strong 3rd floor rumour. (You know how my rumours always turn to reality- in part anyway) The place is buzzing with excitement.
In a return to the time when the forty-somethings were in their teens, Radio 2 is coming to a car-park, promenade or pier near you for six-weeks this summer with a recession busting Retro Road Show that will be this summer’s sensation. Eastbourne, Brighton, Bognor Regis, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, Southampton, Bournemouth, Weymouth, Plymouth, Penzance, Weston-Super-Mare, Bristol, Newport, Cardiff, Aberyswyth, Liverpool, Southport, Blackpool, Morecombe, Carlisle, Glasgow, Belfast, Dundee, Edinburgh, Alnwick, Newcastle, Sunderland, Scarborough, Leeds. Bradford , Manchester, Doncaster, Grimsby, Nottingham, Newport Pagnell, Derby, Birmingham, Norwich, Clacton on Sea, Southend on Sea, Margate and Dover, to name just a few of the places, then ending up with a massive party in the park in London. Already the DJs and presenters are on a diet and fitmess programme so they can look their best in their Bikinis and Bermudas. It’s being billed as the last hurrah for those of us just entering middle age before we succumb to the spread, the bingo wings, and the baldness. There’s more to it than that though – the six-week Roadshow will pave the way for a new-look daytime line-up from Monday 7th September when the new daytime schedule will start. (I’ll give you the low-down on that in April) The Road show will be called “The Rewind” and will go out from 2-5pm weekdays over the summer holidays with just about all the current presenters taking a stint in the OB shack……….. warm sand between my toes again…. lovely.

I donno. "DJ Carrington's Mashup" has a certain appeal to it, like, innit? |

Hmmm- do I detect a little scepticism here? Look at the track record of the rumours that I’ve past on over the years… . The Radio 2 Icon Vote … remember that? It was on here first. Birmingham closing and Alex’s show moving to London… you heard it here first- 6-months in advance. The Chris Evans Christmas Road-Show- rumour – this is where you heard it first. A Pirate Radio show on Radio 2 with the old pirate himself – also announced on this board- months in advance……often my rumours are hidden in stories and other threads but they’re all there if you look ……
I may have been disgorged from my office, and reduced to selling second-hand CDs from a suitcase in Camden Market but the R2 I-con in me, lives on. Talking of the R2 I-con, the sequal to the Rating Wars Story - called… “Rating Wars II- Ego of the Moyles” will be hitting the Coffee Bar mid-April, and it’s full to bursting with the future..... It's very stressfull knowing the future you know. Don't ask me what the lottery numbers are for next week though- it's against the code to pass on things like that. ...don't blame me- I didn't make the rules. |

I can predict the future, too. I predict that Wogan will play "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison some time next week. But then again he might not. |

So do I, but there's a helluva lot more to Van Morrison than that song. Unfortunately, the person who programmes up the playout server at R2 doesn't seem to be aware. |

7th September (or therabouts in the first week of the month) is traditionally a time when the autumn broadcasting schedules kick in. New brooms in cupboards - such as R2's controller - will get to perform their first big sweep properly for the first time in the Autumn.
I would imagine that Sir T. Wogan will have decided to make the jump by that time, too. Let's hope we're in for a good breakfast replacement - somebody who doesn't treat listeners as stupid! |

Just time for a quickie this morning before heading off to the hospital again.
These aren’t predictions guys – these are bona-fide rumours. (3rd Floor Rumours – the very best sort) It’s clear that the new Holy Trinity, of The Prime Minister, the Chancellor, and the Governor of the Bank of England, with all their, what ever takes fiscal and monetary policy promises, are not going to save us: so, it’s up to Radio 2.
This summer’s Rewind Road-Show will go down in history as the very moment when we turned the corner, as we listened to everything from the Beach Boys to Bach and break-danced our way out of recession right there on the sands of our own shores. This is not about saving the Whales anymore- it’s about saving the World.
We chose to undertake the biggest most ambitious road-show in broadcasting history – not because it is easy, but because it is necessary. We can do it if we Radio 2 it!
So come on Mr Bob, show us how big your beach balls are then be the man to save the World.
Sarah K making balloon cats for the kids, Sir Tel broadcasting from a Deck Chair near the hot-dog stand, then Brucies Big Bus Ride(bring a Hacksaw folks- we might need to let the top down), Jezza refereeing the low-tide mud-wrestling, Old Wrighty with his Punch and Judy Show, Skateboarding on Brighton Seafront with Chris – now that’s driving. Sally and Lynn belly-dancing between the travel reports, watch Alex age like an old suitcase as we get him out in the sun for first time, take it easy in Mo’s Seafront Teashop, Pete Mitchell with live updates from the Town Clock- {{{Bongggggggg}}} bring a toothbrush folks because Danny Baker is in the Candy Floss Stand, and bring something heavy cos Wossy is in the Town Stocks… and many many more…..all packed in between 2-5pm daily….
We can’t spend our way out of our recession-depression but we can Road Show our way to recovery.- so get your boots on….

Well 7th September will be during the Radcliffe-Maconie radio walk across Hadrian's Wall. I'm hoping I can be there to salute them as they stumble into the Wallsend area of Newcastle. |
