Hello Sadie, hope you got your chocolate. I know the feeling about pc's and things - I am having difficulties finding my way around this messageboard. I am very grateful to John for finding us new premises but I have a headache trying to find my way here which is why I only pop in now and again. Any pastries going? |

Yes, I'll have a nice strong coffee too and a couple of those Club Biscuits with raisins in... of course, Club Biscuits are not what they used to be.. chocolate like concrete all round.. skimpy things nowadays..
I'm just down off the scaffolding after struggling to get 30 feet of guttering up on my own. I had to chop out some brickwork to get in 2 larger outlets so I'm covered in red brick dust. I'm surprised they let me in here!! The sky looks a little ominous over in the west and I believe it's going to rain all day tomorrow so I must get this done today.
Well, that's better.. I like frothy coffee!
Up the ladder again..

| Haven't had a club biscuit in years. That just reminded me of some lovely chocolatey things me and my friend used to get on our way home from school in the 70's. They were a chocolate case filled with something really nice and had a sweet on the top (eg jelly tot/chocolate button). They were sold individually in plastic wrappers. Does anyone remember please? |

Doesn't ring any bells with me apart from a Walnut Whip ... a chocolate casing with creamy stuff inside but not a sweet topping to be seen...

I'm off to Cromer for a week's holiday tomorrow. Forecast is patchy but I don't care! It'll be wonderful to get away and see places new to me. I belong to the National Trust so will visit Felbrigg Hall and the other one whose name I've forgotten for the moment. Also planning to get to Blakeney, Holt etc and see a friend who will be in Mundesley for the weekend.

Thanks to Google - have just found out they were Kunzle Showboats, does anyone alse remember them, in fact is there anyone else in this coffee shop, hello....... |

I don't remember Kunzle Showboats but have a vague recollection of Kunzle cakes and I think Sarah Kennedy used to talk about them, years ago of course!

I didn't think I remembered them but looking at this pretty poor picture, a distant bell is ringing...
But, I do remember loving these!  They were Gor-Ge-Ous! specially the Apricot or Blackcurrant & Apple ones... oh, lovely!

Its not Christmas which people find depressing
Its all the hype that goes with it and the fact it seems now to start even before Bonfire Night is over
And of course all the money people feel obliged to spend mostly on silly presents they would never want for themselves
Still I do love a real Christmas Tree and a nice fresh Norfolk Turkey not to mention a decent bottle of vintage Port just to keep Mr Scrooge at bay

Yes its handy to watch and inwardly memorise all the Christmas Number One tracks played every day on MTV and other music channels especially if you're thinking of going on Popmaster in the New Year
You need to remember to add a year on though because of course they were also number one at the start of the next year
I know that has caught out a fair number of Popmaster contestants over the years

On the contrary.... it never stops!
In some ways we have ourselves to blame for this; how many of us go off to the sales (which themselves never seem to end) to stock up on next year's prezzies while they're cheap?
I used to hate "commercial" Christmas with a vengeance, nowadays with four grandchildren it's impossible to be totally grumpy for their sakes, so I simply dislike it for the very reasons Ruddlescat describes.
My biggest gripe is Tesco et al flogging mince pies with Xmas packaging, in September, with a sell-by date of late November. That's just cynical. |

There's nothing wrong with having mince pies at any time of year - hot cross buns are sold all year round now, so why not?

I read somewhere at the weekend. “Chrismassy” is the new buzzword in fashion at the moment. It’s very now or did it say, current, to look Chrismassy – apparently. Red is in: you can look good in red: red is the new black! Yeah right- only if you have a significant girth, a long white beard, a pet called Rudolf and start off every sentence with Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas, or maybe if you can’t tell the difference between your grandma and a wolf! Everyone else should steer clear.
Mince-pies don’t really look Christmassy, but they do taste Christmassy- especially warmed-up then served with a big lump of Cornish clotted cream and washed down with big gulps of frothy-coffee. |

Oh dear - I'd better keep off the mince pies then, or someone will think I'm in training.
I like the puff-pastry ones... yes, clotted cream, any cream will do really, but not that oversweet brandy or rum butter.
