Trying to keep personal opinions aside can anyone tell me what sort of age group the show's aimed at? From what little (but enough) that I've heard so far it seems to contain music that may well keep the TOGS happy with banter aimed at children which seems a little odd as the children would probably prefer newer music whilst those that appreciate the music would most likely prefer an adult presentation style.
Also, I do wonder if the trailer with the clarinet was the best bit they could find to promote the show or if someone was having a laugh as I can't believe their intention was to make it sound so naff! |

Think you have got it in one there Jedi !
Why does everything have to be family centred? We don't have one (apart from aging parents) and I'm sick of 'family'. Give me some adult centred programmes please!

From the bits I have endured, it sounds as though they're aiming for those with a mental age of under 10. _________________ MiS |

Tsk tsk MiS, I thought we were supposed to be keeping personal opinions aside!! I think you're being a bit generous with 10 though. Under 5 might be more appropriate.....

I disagree. I think he's managed to stop at little kids. Anyone over the age of primary school leaving age will be insulted by this childish format. |

Jedi, you're right. Looking at criticisms on the blogs and Twitter (I do weird things for fun...), there's a lot of criticism from people of my generation who listened to Chris growing up and are now tuning in to R2 for the first time only to be disappointed by the music (one phrase that's stuck on Twitter is "blue rinse brigade"). As we know, most TOGS' criticism lies with the man - which does suggest Chris is doing breakfast on the wrong station. There's a desperate need for high quality adult radio with a wide range of music.... I get it now. |

Like others, from the bits I've caught, I believe that this is a Breakfast show that belongs in the era of matthew Bannister, Hatchet Man Dann and Blagging Fridays off. The semi decent music is overwhelmed by banal and inane blatherings in an attempt to appease those whose age is less than their shoe size.
We may have been spoiled by Terry, but no plethera of advertising on the telly will make the TOGS change their minds, as the major asset of Terry's show was the input and the banter with the TOGS. _________________ Geddon

Well there's hope for us yet. If the BBC wanted to save face they could abandon the Evans Breakfast slot to allow him to take over from Wossy on the chat show.
Apparently (Daily Wail), a BBC source says that "Evans is a serious contender (against Adrian Chiles) for this show, and his talent has never been in doubt. He seems to have matured and has settled brilliantly into TW's show on R2. He is seen as a more energetic candidate than Adrian. "
That can only be good news.... I am not one for staying up late. _________________ Minx

At 61 I can recall Wogan taking over from John Dunn in the mornings in about 1972 and the change of ambience then was something of a shock. But Wogan went on to become a national institution. Give Chris Evans a chance--so far I'm happy with what I've heard.

I'm sick of that trailer with the child playing the clarinet. It makes me feel that Evans really wants to host a show like 'Child's Play' which Michael Aspel hosted. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

Me too Aviddiva. It's simply excruciating!
He has a fixation with having children on the radio. <yikes>. For me it's an instant turn off.

Having heard some of the shouty naffness this morning I've come to the conclusion it must be for kids with hearing difficulties. What on earth posesses people to ring into crap like this let alone want to listen to it? |

No more than anyone else, his voice hurts my ears.
It seems that Drive and Breakfast have to centre around kids. Why oh why, I'm sick of kids!

His voice hurts my ears too.
But..... and lord forbid I should find myself in the position of having anything positive to say about Chris Evans, I think he is modulating his tone. The other day I could hear something trashy and immature emanating from the radio and thought "that's so awful it must be Chris Evans, but no... it's someone else's voice". But it was him, pitched lower.
He must be taking notice of the criticism. Now if he could just stop speaking altogether............. _________________ Minx

We get the picture! Look its not rocket science... if you don't like Chris Evans DON'T LISTEN to him. No-one's forcing you to. Find another station, listen to a CD .... but please stop posting the same thing here day in, day out.... |

In case you hadn't noticed I don't listen to him BECAUSE I CAN'T STAND HIS VOICE IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM! It's always been that way even before he started on Drivetime and his voice hasn't changed, mores the pity.
Sadly it doesn't stop me from hearing the trailers that are almost every hour just now, so I do get to hear what he sounds like.
As for not posting, not a chance!

It's funny - it's purely the luck of the draw as to whether you hear them. I've only heard the one for CE once - it's the ones for Paul O'Grady I can't stand and it's those that I seem to hear every time I have the radio on _________________ Ron |

You've been lucky then Ron!
I've lost count of the number of times I've heard the one with the child and the clarinet. At least 3 times today and I wasn't listening that much!

You're not even safe on TV. Unfortunately I've seen him slouched in that chair a few times before turning away and doing something more constructive for a few minutes. Why don't other, better presenters get their shows trailered on TV. When have you seen Janice Long, Alex Lester, Sarah Kennedy or Ken Bruce trails on the box.

So, those of us who can't stand Evans and have had our Morning's listening ruined are supposed to just accept it and say nothing are we Shaky Fan? Good job those who recognised the evil of Naziism didn't do the same - ok I know it's not even remotely comparable, but you get the jist.
When the BBC finally get the message, maybe they'll do something about it - some hope _________________ MiS |

MIS I didn't say that!
But there are a small number of people here who spend their time telling us that they hate Evans over and over again. And at some point in many unrelated discussions they turn the discussion round. This thread for example - the very first post begins "Trying to keep personal opinions aside can anyone tell me what sort of age group the show's aimed at?"
After Clives 1st comment Helen and yourself are straight in there...
Make your point and leave it there - there's no need to repeat it ad infinitum. As I said above - no-ones forcing you to listen. And if Chris Evans is the biggest problem in your life consider yourself bloody lucky.... |

Shaky.
I responded to Jedi in agreement the first time, not to Clive. The second time to Aviddiva and not about the same thing, not that it's any of your business who I reply to.
It would be a hell of a quiet board if nobody bothered to reply!

Crikey this is an interesting thread, group hug anyone?
It would be a boring old world if we all liked the same things wouldn't it, some people like Chris others don't. Neither view is going to cause an Armageddon and there are far more important things to bother about than some bloke on the radio.
Maybe rediscover your CD collection or listen to local radio if you need travel news and so on. I can kind of see where shaky fan is coming from though as it does get rather repetitive. I hardly think the BBC are going to take any notice of a few people moaning on message boards anyway.
Just my forepeneth for what it's worth, no offence intended to anyone. |

Because the breakfast show is very important to a station's listening profile. It's the point in the day when most people start a period listening to the radio; if you get them at the start of the day then there's a good chance that most won't bother retuning.
Terry appeared in more TV trails than any other presenter when hosting the breakfast programme for the same reason.

That's very true Rob.
I sometimes forget to switch on at all these days as I don't have R2 on my alarm or in the kitchen in the mornings. The same thing happened with Drive when Evans took over. I know I've missed so many good shows after 7 purely because I've forgotten to switch back on or gone to do something else and realised too late to listen. <doh>
The habit soon goes and I'm sure the BBC knows this.

I dispute that last point. For whatever reason (Wogan being more recognisable, R2 desperate to sell Evans to us whichever way possible, so on...), Evans appeared in more tv trails since he started compared to Wogan in that same 4 year period. Russell Brand ran Evans close, but we all know what happened to him! |

Helen, when has Chris's breakfast show centred around kids?
There is one spot where a kid says what they did the day before, which lasts about 2 minutes.
That's hardly basing the whole show on kids is it really?
There is far more stuff based on babies and kids on Jeremy Vines show. |

Gaz considering the content of the show I find it hard to see how anyone over the age of 18 could fail to be bored senseless
You don't need to have individual features in the show aimed at kids because the whole thing is so childish and puerile its obvious as to what type of audience the show will appeal to
Mainly kids I would venture to suggest |

Well count me and my work colleagues as over 18 year olds who enjoy the show.
I honestly can't believe how you lot can say Chris's show is aimed at kids when just because you don't like it, you come across to me as a self congratulatory little clique.
"Oh my niece and nephew like it, oh yes hahaha that must make it point proven, hohoho."
"Oh I must go out of my way now to retune my radio at 6.30 now", wow!!! is it really really that hard to tune your radio?.
"Substitute, uneducated oafs for Chris Evans listeners", please grow up!
Loads of the comments on here are far more puerile than anything you'll find on Chris's show, and I'm speaking as someone who actually listens to all of the daytime shows which gives me more of a right to comment on them don't you think? |

In a democracy everyone has a right to express an opinion just as every adult has a right to vote in elections
However if you don't like the outcome as expressed by majority opinion you either accept it or emigrate
Nobody forces anyone to use this forum and if they don't like the general comments here there are many other fora where opinion may be different
As they say 'If you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen' |
